Since we launched our virtual programming, RodneyStreet at Home, almost one month ago, we have been truly blown away by all of the great feedback. Our instructors have been working hard creating quality content to help keep all our athletes on top of their game. Mrs. Indie has quickly and enthusiastically embraced a virtual classroom, where she shares at home STEAM projects weekly. Despite the distance, we feel that the RodneyStreet community is stronger than ever! Keep sharing your finished STEAM projects and tennis shots with us, and we'll see you all soon!
Matt joins the RodneyStreet team with over 25 years of combined experience in community programs and athletics. Most recently, he was the Director of Youth Services at Hilltop Lutheran Neighborhood Center where he managed key community partnerships, oversaw the summer program implementation, and supervised overall school-age programming. Matt also founded and currently manages the Delaware Sharks Basketball Program. A believer in strong neighborhood programming, Matt is looking forward to using RodneyStreet’s unique niche of tennis to bring our youth and overall Wilmington community the best possible program experience. We’re excited to have you, Matt! Please join us in welcoming him to the RodneyStreet team!
On November 15th, RodneyStreet athletes had the unique opportunity to visit the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia. The field trip, sponsored by the USTA Foundation, included an in-depth tour of the facility, conversations about athletic health, and special visits from surgeons, nutritionists, physical therapists and athletes. Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, even made an impromptu appearance! This visit gave our young people the chance to see not only athletes, but many different career paths at work. Experiences like this are so essential and keep our programming at top-notch. Thank you to the USTA Foundation and Vincera Institute for such a special and inspiring day!
On Wednesday, July 24th, several young tennis players and a handful of loyal fans joined us at the historic Rodney Street Tennis Courts for our annual RodneyStreet Classic tournament. We were pleased to not only see our RodneyStreet players, but other local athletes join us for some friendly competition. Congrats to our winners and runner ups!
Yesterday we got the chance to dig into history at the Delaware Museum of Natural History! We had a "dino-mite" time exploring prehistoric fossils and more. Wednesday field trips are always a highlight of our Summer Tennis and Enrichment Program!
Another Wednesday, another field trip! This week we had a great time visiting DuPont Environmental Education Center! We learned about wildlife in the classroom before heading outside to see it up close. We always have a great time exploring during our weekly field trips!
This week's field trip took us to Delaware Children's Museum! We learned about loads of STEM-based ideas through hands-on learning at the exhibits. At our Summer Enrichment Program, we always look forward to Field Trip Wednesdays!
We had a toad-ally awesome time exploring Ashland Nature Center last Wednesday. We learned about biodiversity and all the cool creatures living in water. Keep up to date with our blog to follow all of our amazing weekly field trips like this one!
Another Wednesday, another field trip! Yesterday we had a 'whale' of a time at Brandywine Zoo, where we learned about animals from all over the world! Weekly field trips like this one are just one part of what makes our Summer Tennis and Enrichment Program so special!
As proud partners of Girls Inc., we get to work with the amazing young women of Girls Inc. of Delaware every week. Today we kicked writer's block to the curb and spent time writing responses for the NJTL essay contest. We thought about how we can better our communities as individuals and as a team. Working towards a better future is more fun when we do it together! Write on!
As part of our Summer Tennis and Enrichment program, every Wednesday is Field Trip Day! Last week we had an amazing time exploring Ashland Nature Center, where we caught tadpoles and learned about aquatic life and biodiversity. Fun field trips every week means there is always something to look forward to!
RodneyStreet is honored to be one of the 50 organizations nationwide to receive the 2019 Sports 4 Life grant! As partners with the Women's Sports Foundation and espnW, we will continue to expand the opportunities awarded to young women on and off the court. Our Summer Tennis and Enrichment Program is off to an incredible start! Our first day of programming started on the courts, where we reviewed basic tennis skills. Then we moved over to the classrooms, where we made "all about us" posters to help get to know each other a bit better. We cannot wait for all that is left to come this summer! Click the photo below to see more pictures of what we're serving up this summer.
What an evening celebrating RodneyStreet! The evening kicked off with an exclusive tennis clinic with our guest of honor, Chris Eubanks, and continued with food, live music, entertainment, auctions, and socializing with our community of amazing supporters.
Thank you supporters and attendees! You made this special evening, and continue to make our work possible.
Sunday February, 24th was not only a big day for the tennis community in Delaware, but also a BIG day for RodneyStreet. We are so unbelievably honored to accept the 2018 NJTL Chapter of the Year for the USTA Middle States Region, and the 2018 Community Organization of the Year for the USTA Delaware District. We also congratulate our Board Chair, Joel Friedlander, and family, on receiving the USTA Delaware District Family of the Year. To our amazing, supportive community: we owe these awards to YOU. THANK YOU to every single person who has helped us get here. We are so excited to celebrate this achievement while we keep on growing and changing lives.
