2020 Space to Play Campaign

Thank you all for your past and continued support!

Dear Friends of RodneyStreet,

On behalf of RodneyStreet, I would like to thank all who made a donation to Space to Play.

RodneyStreet is an inclusive non-profit organization that provides high quality tennis and supportive academic resources to young people in and around Wilmington. A gift is always greatly appreciated, but this year it is invaluable. There has never been a more essential time for your support, as our indoor program season introduces a whole new set of financial challenges. Multiple court rentals are necessary expenses, as we are putting every effort towards safely distancing our participants. Your gift not only ensures our programs will continue, but that they will do so with the utmost care and safety. There is no greater gift we can think of right now than giving Wilmington youth Space to Play.

Since our grassroots beginning in 1978, RodneyStreet has positively influenced the lives of thousands of children and young adults. Thank you for your partnership as we foster a lifelong love of tennis and learning!

Sincerely,

Dear Friends of RodneyStreet,

The word “space” has never been so relevant. Over the last eight months, many of us have likely felt this word’s weight in a variety of ways. Maybe we’ve been feeling confined by our space at home or felt the distance between us and our loved ones during this time. RodneyStreet has felt it too; and we’re going to embrace what “space” means to us as we enter a new year with new opportunities.

Over the spring season, we were rocked with changes. Along with the rest of the world, we adjusted and switched all of our tennis and STEAM programming over to a virtual format. As schools began shifting to virtual learning as well, we saw the desperate need for RodneyStreet to continue physical programming. In May, we set a goal to reopen, and provide safe and fun daily summer programming. Following USTA and CDC guidelines, we were able to host eight weeks of summer programming with an on-court tennis component and a virtual enrichment component. Unlike previous years, Summer 2020 required some logistical creativity, such as smaller cohorts and multiple program sites, but the reward of bringing Wilmington youth together during this time was beyond worth it.

We have been able to successfully and safely provide on-court programming through the fall season due to our accommodating outdoor space. The winter season brings us indoors and introduces a whole new set of financial challenges. Indoor facilities allow only six kids on court at a time. In order to maintain social distancing guidelines AND continue to serve all enrollees, our only option is to increase indoor court rentals. Please consider giving to RodneyStreet, where your matched contribution will continue to make our space a reality. Your support this season will help us safely keep our kids on court, and most importantly, give them “space to play”.

With Gratitude,
